Akasaka Tower Residence Top of the Hill was completed in May 2008 in Akasaka 2-chome, Minato City, Tokyo. The 45-storey, 3-basement tower stands approximately 159 metres tall — with its highest point at 162 metres — and contains 521 residential units. It was developed by Mori Building, designed by Nikken Sekkei, and constructed by Takenaka Corporation.

The name is literal. The building occupies a high plateau within the Akasaka district, where the terrain rises steeply from the valleys around Akasaka Station and the Nogizaka area. This elevation gives the tower a pronounced visual presence in a surrounding neighbourhood of low- to mid-rise buildings: from several vantage points in central Tokyo, the slim slab stands clear against the sky. The open ground around the building incorporates landscaping with greenery and water features, offering a calmer atmosphere than the busier Akasaka shopping streets a short walk downhill.

Mori Building, known for large-scale urban projects including Roppongi Hills and Azabudai Hills, built this residential tower on a smaller footprint — but with the same attention to programme and environment rather than simply maximising floor area. The sloped terrain of the Akasaka hill is one of the more expressive pieces of topography in central Minato City, and walking the neighbourhood reveals how a building named “Top of the Hill” can earn that description at every angle.
