Nearly 200 Meters on Yokohama’s Silk-Trade Grounds

Kitanaka-dori 5-chome, Naka Ward, Yokohama. Directly connected to Bashamichi Station on the Minatomirai Line, this site is home to a 58-story mixed-use tower rising 199.95 meters. YOKOHAMA KITANAKA KNOT was completed in February 2020, developed jointly by Mitsui Fudosan Residential and Marubeni, with Kajima Corporation as both designer and contractor. The residential component — THE TOWER YOKOHAMA KITANAKA — contains 1,176 units; hotel and commercial facilities round out the program.

The land carries a distinct historical weight. The area was once adjacent to the Silk Inspection Office, which handled silk at a time when it was Japan’s most valuable export commodity. On the development site, the former Teisan Warehouse office building — a structure of brick and white plaster that speaks to Yokohama’s commercial past — has been preserved and integrated into the new complex.

Historic Architecture and the Remaking of Bashamichi

The Kitanaka-dori neighborhood flourished as an international commercial district after Yokohama Port opened in 1859, lined with foreign merchants’ offices and warehouses. In the postwar decades, business activity moved away, leaving the area underused for much of the late twentieth century. The development of YOKOHAMA KITANAKA KNOT was the culmination of a revitalization plan that took shape after Bashamichi Station opened in 2004, with the goal of bringing residents — and nighttime life — to a district that had become daytime-only.

The commercial zone at the base of the complex, KITANAKA BRICK＆WHITE, makes use of the preserved historic buildings, placing brick facades and modern white architecture in dialogue. In January 2026, OMO5 Yokohama Bashamichi by Hoshino Resorts opened in the tower, adding a hotel component to the already mixed program.
