A New Anchor in the Ark Hills District

Ark Hills South Tower stands directly above Roppongi-itchome Station in Minato Ward, completing on September 4, 2013, as a 20-story, three-basement, 108-meter office building. Developed and operated by Mori Building, the tower is the latest chapter in the Ark Hills story, which began when the company opened the pioneering mixed-use Ark Hills complex — containing the Ark Mori Building, Suntory Hall, and the ANA InterContinental Tokyo — in 1986. Nearly three decades later, South Tower added fresh office capacity to a district that had become one of the most prestigious corporate addresses in the city.

The tower’s standard floor area reaches approximately 569 tsubo (roughly 1,881 m²), accommodating large international and domestic companies. Direct underground connections to Roppongi-itchome Station make it a convenient base for executives and staff alike. The design was handled by a consortium including Mori Building Architects & Engineers, Iriye Miyake Architects, and Shimizu Corporation Architects — a collaborative arrangement typical of large urban projects in Japan. Lower floors host retail and dining options that serve the surrounding neighborhood.

A Measured Height in an Ambitious District

At 108 m, South Tower sits well below the 238-meter Roppongi Hills Mori Tower a short walk to the south, and even modestly beneath the 138-meter Ark Mori Building nearby. The restrained height keeps the tower in dialogue with the low-rise streets and embassies of Roppongi-itchome, reinforcing the area’s balance between corporate density and residential character. A glass curtain wall reflects the surrounding greenery and shifts tone between daylight and evening, giving the building a lightness unusual in this class of office tower.

Summary

Ark Hills South Tower completed in September 2013 as a 20-story, 108-meter office building in Roppongi-itchome, the newest piece of Mori Building’s long-running Ark Hills urban development. With large floorplates, direct station access, and a refined curtain-wall facade, it continues the district’s reputation for high-quality office space. Visiting Roppongi-itchome on a clear afternoon, you will find South Tower quietly holding its own amid the greenery and glass of one of Tokyo’s most thoughtfully planned urban districts.
