A Hillside Tower in the ARK Hills Cluster

On a sloping site in Akasaka, roughly equidistant between Roppongi-itchome Station and Akasaka Station, ARK Hills Front Tower completed in January 2011. The building rises 22 floors above ground and one below, reaching a height of 98.39 metres. Mori Building developed it in collaboration with Plantec Architects and Yamashita Sekkei. The name positions it as a “front” building within the broader ARK Hills development zone — an entry point to a cluster of Mori Building properties that have reshaped this patch of Minato City.

The tower combines offices, residences, and street-level retail in a single structure. Its glass and stone cladding presents a composed, restrained face that suits the relatively intimate scale of the Akasaka hillside. At 22 floors it sits below the heights of the neighbourhood’s most prominent towers, but its hillside position gives it a visual presence proportionally greater than its floor count alone would suggest.

One Node in a Larger Cluster

The ARK Hills story begins with ARK Mori Building, completed in 1986 as a landmark of Japan’s redevelopment era. From that anchor, Mori Building has steadily extended its footprint: ARK Hills Sengokuyama Mori Tower rose in 2012, and Izumi Garden Tower stands nearby as a related node in the same high-density corridor. Front Tower completed roughly a year before Sengokuyama Mori Tower, occupying the transitional period when this part of Akasaka was consolidating around a new generation of mixed-use buildings.

The tower’s dual access — to both the Namboku Line at Roppongi-itchome and the Chiyoda Line at Akasaka — makes it a relatively convenient base for office workers and residents who move between central Tokyo’s different business districts.
