A New Supertall at Osaka Station’s West Gate
In Umeda 3-chome, Kita Ward, Osaka — adjacent to JR Osaka Station’s west entrance — a 188-metre tower completed on 12 March 2024. JP Tower Osaka was developed by Japan Post, designed by Nikken Sekkei and built by a joint venture of Takenaka Corporation, Nishimatsu Construction and Zenitaka Corporation. The building runs 39 floors above ground and three below, with a total gross floor area of approximately 227,000 square metres.
The lower levels from basement one to floor six opened on 31 July 2024 as KITTE Osaka, a commercial complex with 107 stores covering food and beverage, retail and services. KITTE is the brand Japan Post introduced in the 2013 JP Tower in Marunouchi, Tokyo; the Osaka outpost marks the label’s westward expansion. Upper floors provide large-plate grade-A office space, drawing domestic and international tenants to one of Japan’s most accessible business addresses.
A New Axis for Umeda’s Redevelopment
JP Tower Osaka’s Umeda 3-chome address sits close to both JR Osaka Station and the Umeda subway stations, giving it exceptional connectivity. The tower stands near the edge of the “Umekita” redevelopment zone that stretches north of Osaka Station. Together with Grand Green Osaka, which opened in 2024, it is shaping a new urban corridor extending Umeda’s commercial energy westward. Japan Post’s decision to convert its former postal facility site into a high-rise complex also drew attention as a model for large public-sector landholders unlocking underused urban land.
Summary
JP Tower Osaka, completed in 2024, is a 39-floor, 188 m complex developed by Japan Post, designed by Nikken Sekkei and built by a Takenaka-led joint venture. KITTE Osaka brings 107 commercial tenants to its lower floors while grade-A offices fill the tower above, adding a major new landmark to the west side of Osaka Station and advancing the long-running transformation of the Umeda district.
