Osaka’s Newest Riverside Tower

On the south bank of the Dojima River, a stretch of Osaka’s Kita Ward that has long concentrated finance, offices, and hotels, a new landmark rose in April 2024. Osaka Dojimahama Tower stands 143 m and 32 floors above ground, replacing the 1969 Osaka Mitsubishi Building that had defined this corner of the district for more than half a century. The project was developed by OM4 Godo Tokutei Mokuteki Kaisha, a special-purpose vehicle formed by Mitsubishi Estate, Mitsubishi Corporation Urban Development, Sekisui House, and Mitsubishi HC Capital Realty. Design was handled by a joint venture of Mitsubishi Jisho Sekkei and Takenaka Corporation; construction by Takenaka Corporation alone.

Three Uses Stacked on the Dojima Riverbank

The tower organises its programme vertically. Lower floors house retail, the middle section holds office space, and floors 17 through 31 are occupied by Candeo Hotels Osaka The Tower. A viewpoint on the 16th floor offers sightlines over the Dojima River and toward Osaka Bay. At street level, a riverside public plaza and boat landing were developed alongside the tower, extending a network of waterfront spaces that connects through Nakanoshima to the west.

The project earned design awards in 2025 from both the Japan Institute of Landscape Architecture and the Council on Landscape Architecture — recognition focused partly on the quality of its riverbank public realm. Completing construction in April 2024, it became one of the most recent additions to Osaka’s roster of supertall mixed-use buildings.

Summary

Osaka Dojimahama Tower, completed in April 2024, reaches 143 m across 32 floors in Kita Ward, combining offices, a hotel, and retail in a compact riverside block. The waterfront plaza at its base connects to a broader promenade along the Dojima River, making the tower as much a public space as a commercial address. Walking west from Umeda along the riverbank is the best way to see how it fits into Osaka’s layered waterfront.
