The Centrepiece of Osaki Garden City

In January 2018, Sumitomo Fudosan Osaki Garden Tower was completed in the Nishi-Shinagawa district, a short walk from Osaki Station. Standing 24 floors above ground and two below, the tower reaches approximately 114 metres. Nikken Sekkei handled the design; Taisei Corporation carried out the construction. Sumitomo Realty & Development led the project as the driving force behind the Nishi-Shinagawa 1-chome District First-Class Urban Redevelopment Project.

The tower’s glass curtain wall rises in a clean, rectilinear form that keeps its proportions measured against the surrounding Osaki skyline. Office floors are organised around column-free layouts suited to a variety of tenants, following a formula that Nikken Sekkei has applied to a number of large-scale commercial towers across central Tokyo. The result is a building whose efficiency is more apparent from inside than from the street.

Osaki Garden City as a Whole

Garden Tower is the headline building of a larger development called Osaki Garden City, which integrates an office tower, a residential tower, and a landscaped garden plaza on a single block. The total floor area across the entire development is reported to reach roughly 220,000 square metres, making it one of the most substantial single-block developments completed in the Osaki area.

Osaki’s redevelopment has proceeded in incremental stages over several decades. Gate City Osaki and Osaki ThinkPark Tower preceded it on the east and west sides of the station respectively, and each project has added to the density and variety of the district. Garden Tower arrives near the end of this sequence, completing a generation of west-side development with a project that prioritises the integration of green space and residential life alongside office use.
