A New Tower Rises in Akasaka

In the Akasaka 2-chome district of Minato City, midway between Tameike-Sanno and Akasaka-Mitsuke stations, a supertall arrived in 2024. The Akasaka Trust Tower — the centrepiece of the Tokyo World Gate Akasaka project — stands 43 floors above ground and three below, reaching a height of approximately 210 metres. Mori Trust and NTT Urban Development co-developed the project; Taisei Corporation handled both design and construction. Phase 1 was completed in August 2024 and the Phase 2 completion ceremony was held on 31 October 2024. The combined gross floor area of the entire district is approximately 236,200 square metres.

The lower floors accommodate shops and clinics, office floors span levels 5 through 36, and a hotel occupies level 38 and above. The tower joins existing landmarks such as Ark Mori Building in defining the Akasaka-Tameike skyline, adding a modern supertall to a district already known for its concentration of corporate headquarters.

Reshaping the Akasaka District

Tokyo World Gate Akasaka consolidated several older sites into a single mixed-use precinct stacking offices, hospitality and retail. Akasaka 2-chome’s proximity to Nagatacho and Kasumigaseki — the centre of Japanese government — makes it a natural address for domestic and international firms that need quick access to ministries and the Diet. Placing a hotel in the upper floors supports extended business stays, a practical choice for a location that draws visitors from across Japan and abroad. The completion of this project, together with adjacent buildings including NTT Akasaka Building and ATT East, substantially expanded Akasaka’s total office supply.

Summary

The Akasaka Trust Tower, completed in 2024, rises to approximately 210 m across 43 floors in Akasaka, central Tokyo. Developed by Mori Trust and NTT Urban Development and constructed by Taisei Corporation, it marks the latest chapter in the ongoing transformation of the Akasaka district. For a view of how Tokyo’s mid-city business quarter continues to evolve, this tower is worth a walk past.
